Higher Education
Regarding higher education in Bénin, it is worth noting that from 1960 until recently, it offered classical training based on the French system. The degrees awarded were DUEL/DUESS/LICENCE/MAÎTRISE/DEA/DESS/DOCTORAT. These qualifications were obtained through various faculties and National schools.
Today, the system is built on the Anglo-Saxon LMD model (Licence Master Doctorat) with the aim of making students more competitive and professionally prepared for the job market upon graduation and reducing the growing unemployment rate. Starting with a single university in 1969, the National University of Bénin, the country now has multiple universities and several university centers.
