The Zou is a department in southern Bénin. It takes its name from the river that flows through it, the Zou, a tributary of the Ouémé. Its population stands at 851,623 inhabitants (2013), with a population density of 162 per km² and an area
The Zou is a department in southern Bénin. It takes its name from the river that flows through it, the Zou, a tributary of the Ouémé. Its population stands at 851,623 inhabitants (2013), with a population density of 162 per km² and an area of 524,300 hectares, or 5,243 km². The inhabitants are predominantly Fon people. Since 2013, the Zou department has comprised 527 villages and urban neighborhoods. The municipalities of Zou Abomey (the prefecture), Agbangnizoun, Bohicon, Covè, Djidja, Ouinhi, Zangnanado, Za-Kpota, Zogbodomey
