The Donga Department
Donga is a department in central-western Bénin, bordering Togo, located in the former Atacora department of which it occupied the southern part. It covers an area of 11,126 km², has a population of 542,605 inhabitants (2013) and a density of 49 residents/km².
Donga is a department in central-western Bénin, bordering Togo, located in the former Atacora department of which it occupied the southern part. It covers an area of 11,126 km², has a population of 542,605 inhabitants (2013) and a density of 49 residents/km². The region is predominantly inhabited by Bariba and Dendi peoples. Notable tourist sites include the Royal Palace of Djougou, the sacred forest of Djougou, Tébou hill and many others. Djougou is the largest urban center in Donga. It is a crossroads city located 461 km from Cotonou; since 2013, the Donga department has comprised 281 villages and urban districts. The communes of Donga Donga is subdivided into four (4) communes: Bassila, Copargo, Djougou (the prefecture) and Ouaké
