Borgou is a department located in the East of Benin, bordering Nigeria, as well as the departments of Alibori, Atacora, Collines and Donga. Its population of 1,202,095 inhabitants (2013), its density of 46 inhab./km², surface area of 2,585,600 ha or 25,856 km². Borgou is populated mainly by Bariba, Fulani, Dendi and Yoruba peoples. The communes of Borgou Borgou comprises eight (8) communes: Bembéréké, Kalalé, N'Dali, Nikki, Parakou (the prefecture), Pèrèrè, Sinendé, Tchaourou.
