Accommodation in Benin
Major hotels are primarily concentrated in Cotonou, the economic capital. There are no 4 or 5-star hotels in the interior of the country. However, you will not be disappointed with accommodation options. Since Cotonou is both your arrival and departure point, you will inevitably spend two or three nights in this magnificent city. It offers all categories of lodging: high-end hotels, motels, exceptional guesthouses, guest houses, and bed & breakfasts. Prices vary from one hotel to another and between categories.
For a room in a 3-star hotel in Cotonou, expect to pay between €90 and €100. A 2-star hotel room runs between €70 and €80. For guest houses or gîtes, budget around €40.
Budget-conscious travelers: your agency offers two 3-star hotels (Hôtel du Port and Hôtel du Lac) in Cotonou at €80. However, you can choose higher-end hotels and pay the difference. Options include the Ibis Hotel (3-star) at €100, or the Golden Tulipe and Azalai hotels (4-star) at €150.
Inland, you'll find 2-star hotels in major cities such as Porto-Novo (Hôtel Le Palais), Parakou (Kobourou Hôtel), and 1-star hotels in Abomey, Bohicon, Dassa (Jeco Hôtel), Djougou, Natitingou, Ouidah, and Grand-Popo. Expect to spend between €50 and €60.
It's also worth noting that budget-conscious travelers can stay in auberges or motels throughout Benin at remarkably affordable rates—between €30 and €40 depending on the city.
Furthermore, we offer homestays that allow travelers to experience daily life within local families while supporting indigenous communities. This type of accommodation is available in the villages of Issaba near Ketou, Gossoué, Zangnando, Dassa, Djougou, Natitingou, Boukoumbe, and Tanguieta, offering complete immersion for visitors. A contribution of €20 or €25 supports local populations.
Finally, you have the option to travel through Benin and camp under canvas if you wish. This is particularly recommended for scientific expeditions focused on wildlife and flora research, ornithology, agronomy, soil science, and archaeology. You can bring your own tent or purchase one locally.
