How to choose your circuit in Benin?

Benin's narrow geography, 700 kilometres from north to south, lends itself to a loop logic rather than isolated stops. To grasp the essentials (southern lagoons, Abomey plateau, central hills), our circuits of 13 to 17 days extend as far as Dassa or Parakou. To add the Atakora, Betammaribé country and a safari in Pendjari, plan for 18 days or more, which allows time for rotating markets and a night with a family in a tata.

The ideal pace alternates two nights per main stop, with driving days of 4 to 6 hours maximum. We adapt the circuit order according to your arrival date and ongoing voodoo ceremonies.

Different circuit types

Three angles dominate our Benin itineraries. Cultural circuits delve into the Dahomey heritage, voodoo in Ouidah and Abomey, Betammaribé traditions. Adventure circuits combine trekking in the Atakora, crossing the Tanougou waterfalls and guided foot safari in Pendjari. Family circuits prioritize short distances, Ganvié by pirogue, weaving workshops in Bohicon and Grand-Popo beach at the end of your stay.

Each itinerary remains flexible, and we readily combine two angles on the same journey.

What is the best season?

The main window runs from November to February, peak dry season, with temperatures between 24 and 32 °C and the harmattan cooling northern nights. The national voodoo festival on 10 January in Ouidah attracts travellers from around the world. For Pendjari safaris, the season extends until May, with optimal wildlife concentration in March-April around water points, but temperatures exceeding 35 °C during the day.

From June to September, the rainy season makes certain northern tracks difficult and Pendjari park closes. The south remains accessible, but less comfortable. We discourage this period unless specifically requested.

Our quality commitment

Isaac and the Benin team, based in Cotonou, design each itinerary drawing on a network of English-speaking driver-guides, accommodation providers and cultural contacts we have followed for years. We regularly visit each lodge, verify track conditions season by season and adjust programmes according to ceremonies, markets and actual ground conditions.

Your journey is guaranteed by APST and our activity is certified Atout France, which secures your funds from deposit to arrival. In case of any unforeseen circumstances on the ground, our team remains available 24/7 throughout your stay.
